Single Channel per Carrier (SCPC) networks are designed to provide secure, hi-speed fixed bandwidth satellite connectivity, as the satellite bandwidth is dedicated to single source. It is widely used for individual sites that are remotely located, where guaranteeing bandwidth availability and operational performance is critical. The SCPC network solution used on broadcast satellites to indicate that radio stations are not multiplexed as subcarriers onto a single carrier is one of a suite of network solutions designed to optimize communications between remote sites. The installation of an SCPC link enables the client to establish a reliable and secure communication channel between the central office and the remote site, wherever this may be located. The point-to-point connection supports all typical business and other traffic including voice, email, data and video and is particularly suited for projects requiring a fixed but thicker bandwidth that enables the transmission of higher amounts of data.

Point to Point Service -5

Any business operation with long-distance telecommunications needs will find Point-to-Point VSAT an attractive solution. For a corporation translates into permanent communication link with a branch office. The great advantage of this solution is its flexibility and scalability with data rates from 9.6kbps to 10Mbps. A central hub is not required, with the advantage of low latency. If there is a requirement to support voice and data in a classic point “A” to point “B” network-from one city to another for example, point-to- point SCPC technology is typically used. It is very sufficient to transfer Data, Voice and Video between the two sites due to the latency of 550ms wherever the sites are located.

Point to Multi-point Service-6

Providing multiple paths from a single location to multiple locations.

Point-to-multipoint communication is a term that is used in the telecommunications field which refers to communication which is accomplished via a specific and distinct type of multipoint connection, providing multiple paths from a single location to multiple locations. Point-to-multipoint telecommunications is most typically (2003) used in wireless Internet and IP Telephony via gigahertz radio frequencies. P2MP systems have been designed both as single and bi-directional systems. A central antenna or antenna array broadcasts to several receiving antennas and the system uses a form of Time-division Multiplexing to allow for the back-channel traffic. Also known as a “multidrop” link, a multipoint link is a link that connects two or more nodes. Also known as general topology networks, these include ATM and Frame Relay links, as well as X.25 networks when used as links for a network layer protocol like IP. Unlike broadcast links, there is no mechanism to efficiently send a single message to all other nodes without copying and retransmitting the message.

Point-to-Multipoint Connectivity

A point-to-multipoint link is a specific type of multipoint link which consists of a central connection endpoint (Main Point) that is connected to multiple peripheral Remotes. Any transmission of data that originates from the central Main Point is received by all of the peripheral Remotes while any transmission of data that originates from any of the peripheral Remotes is only received by the central Main Point. This term is also often used as a synonym for multipoint, as defined above.
